Motcombe quiz night

Sixty five Friends and supporters came to the Memorial Hall on 8th May for a fabulous night of prizes, challenges and wonderful food from the Middle East.

The evening raised awareness of the refugee situation worldwide and locally and topped up the funds of our small charity by nearly £400.

There was a lot of great feedback on the evening.

People enjoyed the quiz, ‘….entertaining and not too difficult’ and the physical task, ‘ We loved the jeopardy of the toilet roll tower points system!’

However the bulk of the praise was for Samar and Ammar's efforts in the kitchen, producing a three course meal for 70 people and serving it up in 45 minutes. There were squabbles between quizzers over the limited number of table menus and calls for food boxes to take home what could not be eaten from the ample servings. One quizzer has even recommended The Hammouds’ Kitchen to a London caterer.

The quiz was won by ‘The Desperadoes’ who were surprised to get 97 from 120 points. They won the fabulous hamper donated by Bill at Compton McRae. Not bad for a team who swore at the beginning that they knew nothing about popular culture!

Prize hamper from Compton McRae.

One embarrassed quizzer won the raffle 4 times and Hanadi drew the winning fiver for her husband Atif. Just lucky, but it raised a smile!

Many, many thanks to all who donated prizes, all who attended and all who helped make the evening such a joy. There will be more!
