How the NHS will help

First register with a doctor

The government guidance on how to register with a doctor and get medication can be found here з перекладом there are also NHS doctor and patient questionnaires in Ukrainian and Russian.

Doctors in the UK are called GPs. GPs locally have been asked to offer migrants the same basic new patient check as for all registering patients. In addition, they will use the ‘Checklist for assessing migrant patients’ below to address health needs stemming from:

  • their life experiences prior to migration

  • circumstances of their migration

  • circumstances in which they are living in the UK

Because many migrants come from countries with very different health care systems from the UK you can expect health practitioners to take time to explain about how the NHS works, the refugees’ entitlements to healthcare, and how to access healthcare.

The structure of support for health is set out in this useful infographic and in Ukranian language.
