Financial impact on hosts

There have been some new documents published by the National Government to clarify the impact of being a Sponsor/Host on Social Care calculations and Council Tax relief. The details are here:

  • Regulations to limit impact on council tax for Homes for Ukraine sponsors - any discount on your Council Tax for single occupancy will be unaffected by your hosting of Ukrainian Refugees. "Households who become sponsors through the Homes for Ukraine scheme will not lose their council tax discounts thanks to legislation coming into force today, Minister for Refugees Lord Harrington has confirmed today, 11 April 2022"

  • Social care charging for local authorities: Homes for Ukraine scheme - any Homes For Ukraine "Thank You" payments paid to Hosts/Sponsors will be disregarded in any social care eligibility calculations. "On that basis, local authorities should disregard these payments when carrying out social care financial assessments, and it is the government’s view that local authorities may rely on Schedule 1, paragraph 6 in the Charging Regulations to do so. This will allow the care recipient to retain the £350 payment in line with the intention of the Homes for Ukrainians policy."
