The joy of carp!

Congratulations to Carsten and Jack, a young dancer from Zaporizhizhia for landing this whopping carp.

Jack lives close to the Dnipro river and has fished it many times as a boy and a keen competition angler. The bombing of the dam and the subsequent flooding killed people, erased homes, disrupted livelihoods and damaged the fishing.

Jack has not fished since the war started, and a chance comment helped him return to something that is a great joy for him.

We put our hooks in the water and Mark came up with some rods and tackle, Stuart loaned wellingtons and clothes, Sara provided the flapjack and Carsten provided the companionship.

Looks like they had a great time and who would have thought that Shaftesbury Refugee Group would one day have a fishing report.
