Ukrainians thank our community with pancakes and a display of culture and tradition

On 25th February in Shaftesbury Town Hall Ukrainian guests celebrated Maslenitsa, the festival called Shrove Tuesday in the UK and gave a thank you for the support of their hosts and the local community.

Keri Jones from This is Alfred made this excellent report on the event

A highlight was the martial arts display including feats of strength, resilience and agility from a sister and brother duo staying in Yetminster.

There was also Pavuk making with straw and the making of Motanka, traditional guardian dolls made from straw, rags and embroidered tape..

We made traditional Pavuk, spider’s webs hung as a decoration.

There was also the most amazing selection of pancakes and dumplings which were eaten long before any photographs could be taken!

Ukrainians in Shaftesbury thank you for your support.
