Motcombe quiz night raises over £900

Motcombe Village Hall was full to bursting point for our quiz and Syrian Feast.

There was a great atmosphere and people had come to have fun over the 4 hours of the evening.

Picture rounds featured decades and South American animals.

There was a tricky, practical transport task where team members collaborated over carrying items on a tray suspended from 3 strings. This task was especially tricky for the first teams who attempted it. Their struggles informed strategies such as ‘dragging’ and the ‘3 strings combined’ approaches that meant the winning team came in with a time under 45 seconds.

One of the most successful and high scoring rounds was a logic puzzle based on the rules for naming shapes. Lots of good team work and careful thought applied by all.

Eventually the 10 rounds were over, and the winners were ‘6 is the Magic Number’ on 88, but only by answering closer to the tiebreak answer than ‘Rascals’, also on 88. 6 other teams were within 10 points of these two leaders. Not bad for a quiz where the maximum mark was 110!

Generous donors provided us with excellent first and second prizes of hampers and there were an impressive number of donations from local businesses to make for an interesting selection of raffle prizes too. Thanks especially to Virginia Hayward and Compton McRae

Our quiz night was supported by Imad, Bayan and Louai of Kabab Ji (Syrian Cuisine) KSC who produced a feast of food for all. Plates were filled and people came back for more of the delicious Syrian recipes with a Palestinian twist from Bayan’s heritage. Definitely the highlight of the evening for many people.

Photos were taken by Jamie Randall of Randall Photos and Louai Aljam. Many thanks to them for their support on the evening.
