Making and sewing
We have received a wonderful offer from The Sewing Barn at Hawkers Farm at Stour Provost (between Stour Row and East Stour). The Sewing Barn is deep in the countryside, a delightful location in the lee of Duncliffe Hill and looking out over the Blackmore Vale.
The owner, Jennifer Morisetti has opened up the resources of the barn to displaced people. Here are some of the opportunities and ideas that this beautiful space has to offer:
The Wear Me Out clothing wardrobe makes it possible to change your dress for that special occasion. It might be a once only hat or a special gown. Come and try something on to make the occasion that little bit extra special.
The regular Thursday drop-in Hawkers Recreatives is for any work related to sewing and good company. It is an open session from 10-12.30. Just call 07801 240103 to check the session is running - it usually is!
The Hawkers Recreatives could be an opportunity to make new clothes from the many fabrics and patterns at the Sewing Barn. It might be your chance to make those mends that a loved garment needs. On hand are skilled people who can advise on invisible and visible mends that improve and enhance your cherished clothes.
It may be your chance to try on some new clothes or make the alterations that are needed. For all these activities there are the sewing machines, needles, threads, fabrics and advice that will make the job easier.

The space is for adults and children and Jenny has many creative ideas that will inspire our next generation of makers and menders and reawaken the necessary skills of the recent past. Perhaps you need curtains or want to line yours to keep in that expensive energy over winter? Maybe your jeans need a personal touch that just says YOU? Hawkers Recreatives is perfect for you!
The Sewing Barn is a space that has many other opportunities. There is a small kitchen with stoves, kettles and a fridge. The space is large enough for a cinema evening, a celebration of a birthday or life event. There are numerous chairs and tables and a large open area just outside the Barn.
Hawkers Farm runs a number of workshops throughout the year and supports other programmes such as Dorset Art Weeks and its own DeFashion Dorset. Jenny is an advocate and champion for a waste free world where we benefit from saving energy, making use of what we have already made and sustaining our local environment and the planet we share. It is a hub for ideas that promote kindness and care in our area and for our world. You would be very welcome, whatever your interests are.
