Kyiv City Ballet

When we wrote, in hope, to Kyiv City Ballet we could not have expected such a prompt and positive response from Ivan and Ekaterina to our idea of a week long programme of dance, discussion and community.

We asked Kyiv City Ballet to North Dorset because art lifts us up and brings us together. We asked them to bring joy to people in North Dorset through ballet.

This week of dance events led by members of Kyiv City Ballet will support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people we live with. It will have an emphasis on including all children in a celebration of the joy of dance.

The week will be an opportunity for people to celebrate our common humanity and creativity and acknowledge the strength of the Ukrainian community, reflected in the way this company, and the stars who will visit us, have continued to dance and delight.

The visit of the stars of Kyiv City Ballet will be a chance to recognise the supportive response of the local community, to thank the hosts who have provided a home to people, and to show how North Dorset is a welcoming and a safe place for those facing hardship and trauma.

Our Ukrainian guests have enriched our lives and inspired us. They in turn want to thank our councils, schools and other organisations who delivered on their promises. And to thank the individuals who, through their acts of kindness have signalled a welcome from the community of North Dorset and South Wiltshire to the people of Ukraine.
