Introducing ‘Kabab Ji’

Originally from Damascus, Imad and Bayan bring their unique take on an old favourite, the Kebab. Their new restaurant opens on Friday 5th June with ‘Kababs like you’ve never tasted before .’

Imad and Bayan

For two years Imad and Bayan have run the successful Gillingham Syrian Cuisine and in that time they have learnt what their diners love to eat the most, and what they (and we) keep coming back for. They have decided to theme their new concept on these favourite dishes, the Kebabs and Shawarmas that have become favourites for their Friday and Saturday pop-up restaurant.

Kabab Ji (Syrian Cuisine) is the concept, an extensive menu with many options, but all based around these favourites.

Have you been wondering, Kebab or Kabab? Because there is not an exact English equivalent for the Arabic كباب it doesn’t really matter, the great taste is the same! (Finally, we will not be failing the spelling test!)

Shawerma or Shawarma? You get the idea!

We wish Imad and Bayan the very greatest success with their restaurant, we look forward to eating with them very, very soon.

Quick review

We visited on Saturday 10th June.

Carolyn and Joyce tried the Shish Taouk, One with chips and one with kabsa rice. Stuart had the Shawarma with kabsa rice and we shared a yogurt salad.

The chicken was moist, chunky and nicely seasoned. Grilled to perfection. The rice was very tasty and rich with nuts, olives and sultanas. The salads were fresh and well seasoned with fewer pickles. The yogurt salad was more like a sauce and a great complement to the meal with flavours of fresh mint and garlic and very moreish.

We were too full for a complete dessert after the generous main plates but sampled the halva and baklava. Do try to leave space for them yourselves, they were delicious with the flower tea and turkish coffee.
