Eurovision - United in Music

Over 90 of us came together for a joyous evening of music, food, prizes and even a little dancing.

Sad that the Eurovision was not safe to be held in Ukraine we nevertheless came together with the Ukrainian guests to celebrate a moment of humanity and community.

The room was set our ‘cabaret style’ with the help of the wonderful team at Motcombe Village Hall. The Memorial Hall has the best audio visuals and offer of any Village Hall in the area and was able to do Eurovision justice with the quality of image and sound.

By 7.00pm the team of Trustees, Friends and family were ready for their guests.

Guests began to arrive sporting their flags and national identity and some had entered completely into the sequined splendour of a Eurovision night.

The night began to warm up as we picked our favourites and got into the swing of that uniquely inclusive Eurovision moment.

Gillingham Syrian Cuisine made many of us their signature dishes of shawarma wraps with chips, salad, pickle and yogurt dressing and the same with crunchy and moist falafel. Plates were piled high and appetites satisfied, a feast for just £10.

The Cha Cha Cha Cha Cha-Cha of Finland’s entry got us all on our feet.

Then it was time for the prizes!

The raffle prizes had been gathered with generous donations from Shaftesbury Wines, The Coppleridge, the Trustees, Jonny Ensall and Harriet Clark.

The grand prize of a hamper of artisan delicatessen goodies came from Compton McRae.. The hamper was won by Sarah and family who almost lost out by leaving early, but we tracked them down!

The winner of the generous Coppleridge voucher has yet to redeem their prize, we wait for your e-mail.

The five for a fiver lottery was especially rewarding for ‘Myla’ who won £112.50 on the night. A real jackpot that left her stunned.

Anne Philpott of This is Alfred captured the intent and the mood of the evening with this great This is Alfred article.
