Neurographics

We had not previously heard of Neurographics but witnessed a relaxing session in Dorchester with Yuliia Kobzarieva which had been valued by the Ukrainian Guests that joined it.

The work of Shaftesbury Refugee Group often involves enabling the good ideas and intentions of the people who know best, the people displaced by war.

So at the Friends Meeting House in Shaftesbury 8 people gathered on a Sunday in June to go through a process that was engaging and relaxing.

The process was structured and inclusive. With clear steps, guests were able to articulate their concerns or anxieties and then process them through freeform strokes and the softening and colouring of these with distinctive black lines and carefully chosen colour blocks.

As the pieces of unique art emerged the participants were rewarded with something that had helped their unconscious thoughts to be expressed in something meaningful to each of them.

Gentle music and a chance to chat, whilst working, also meant that other helpful things could surface and be addressed.

We are considering with Trustees and Ukrainian guests whether to continue with this course, certainly the participants on the day found it extremely helpful.
